You never know who's in the audience... One evening, after performing a comedy sketch at Who's Who, Lewis & Clark (MATT WINSTON and LESLI MARGHERITA) are met backstage by famous producer Larry Peters (SAM ANDERSON). To their surprise he invites them to attend a taping of his hit late-night television comedy/variety series, "The Nite Thing." Would Adam be interested in replacing one of the show's stars who's about to leave?, the producer asks. Of course, he adds, Liz would be worked in as well. Adam jumps at the chance. This is their big break! But has Lewis & Clark been hired, or just Adam? As Adam gets more and more excited about the gig, Liz discovers a side of him she doesn't know, or like.
At the same time, Reese (STEPHANIE DICKER), pretending to be Ryan's (CHRISTIAN KANE) agent, gets him a meeting with top Hollywood casting director Bobbie Benedetti (SUSAN BLOMMAERT) for a role in a movie. Benedetti discovers that Ryan has lied to gain access and flies into a rage, throwing him out of her office.
Adam shows up for work on the set of "The Nite Thing." His illusions of grandeur are quickly shattered when he receives a note from Larry Peters informing him that the actor is not leaving the show, and that they will not be needing his services. Realizing that he was being used to make the other actor jealous, Adam begs forgiveness from Liz for being so insensitive and self-serving.
Meanwhile, a scheme is hatched to give Ryan another shot. Marcus, pretending to be Jack Nicholson, places a call to Bobbie Benedetti, who rushes out of a casting session to take the phony call. Ryan sneaks into the audition and gives a killer reading in front of the producers. Although they wont use him for this film, they promise that they will cast him in the future.
