Meanwhile, Ryan (CHRISTIAN KANE) brings Reese (STEPHANIE DICKER) a copy of his demo tape to Triumph Records, her latest temp job. While waiting for her to sneak the tape to a music rep, he has an embarrassing run-in with her boss, Linette Archer (ROMY WALTHALL), a beautiful, older woman who mistakes him for her masseuse. Later that night, Ryan sees Linette with her boyfriend Michael (ROBERT LIPTON) at Who's Who. Despite their age difference, Ryan makes a play for her and succeeds in winning her over.
With positive feedback from the read-through and prodding from Marcus, David finally finishes his play and permits Marcus to direct an in-house production. Marcus decides that this time his character should get the girl, but despite his insistence, David refuses to rewrite history. The play is a huge success.
At Suzanne's (HEIDI NOELLE LENHART) twenty-fourth birthday party, Ryan introduces Linette to his friends, who promptly all gossip about the couple behind their backs. Feeling uneasy, Linette asks for her space. The next day at her office, Ryan finds Linette back with her ex. Ryan is distraught as Linette tries to explain that they are each in very different places in their lives. The night of the big performance, Ryan sees the parallels between his situation and David's play. Although now apart, Ryan finds happiness in the realization that he will always love Linette, just as David will always love Julie.
